DPR-24 and DPR-27 Emergency Res~onse Data Svstem (ERDS) Changes Pursuant to the requirements of 10 CFR 50, Appendix El Section V1.3, "Maintaining the Emergency Response Data System," NextEra Energy Point Beach, LLC (NextEra) is submitting this letter to inform the NRC of changes to the Point Beach Nuclear Plant emergency response data system (ERDS) link software scheduled to be implemented in September 201 1.
These changes will involve a conversion from a dial-up modem based system to a more reliable internet based system using a plant information sewer and NRC supplied virtual private network (VPN) appliance. The NRC ERDS resource desk was notified of this change via electronic mail on August 8, 201 1.
During implementation of this change, the ERDS link will remain available and will not affect the plant's ability to activate the ERDS link, if required.
This information is being provided in compliance with 10 CFR 50 Appendix E, Section V1.3.b, which requires notification 30 days prior to any hardware or software changes that could affect the transmission format or computer communication protocol to the ERDS.
