Virtual Private Network (VPN) Transition Ladies and Gentlemen:
In accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 50, Appendix E, Section VI, Item 3a, Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) is submitting a notification of changes to the Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Power Plant, Unit 1 and Unit 2 Emergency Response Data System (ERDS).
Changes involve a conversion from a dial-up modem-based system to a more reliable internet based system using a plant information server and NRC supplied Virtual Private Network (VPN) appliance. Initial installation and testing of ERDS VPN has been completed, and SNC has scheduled the implementation date for ERDS VPN for March 30, 2012. No changes were made to the data point libraries for Plant Hatch.
This letter provides the 30-day notification to the NRC that the Plant Hatch ERDS VPN system will be ready to place in service by March 30, 2012. This completes the ERDS VPN System installation for all SNC sites.
