Farley Nuclear Plant Vogtle Electric Generating Plant Notification of Extension for SDP Information Submittal Ladies and Gentlemen:
In his September 2, 2004 letter, Mr. Michael Tschiltz, Chief of the Probabilistic Safety Assessment Branch, requested that certain Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) information be provided to his office for use in the updating of the Significance Determination Process (SDP) risk-informned inspection notebooks for Southern Nuclear Operating Company's (SNC) three plants. SNC's response, NL 04-1869 dated October 4, 2004, noted that the requested information would be submitted during the first quarter of 2005, barring unforeseen delays in the revision of the SNC PRA models for the three subject plants.
As discussed by Mr. William Bums, SNC Supervisor of PRA Services, with Mr. Michael Franovich of the Probabilistic Safety Assessment Branch, delays have occurred in the revision of the PRA models due to conflicting priorities on available resources. These delays have necessitated an extension beyond the proposed submittal dates. While the approach of employing the most current available information for the update of the SDP notebooks is considered to be preferable to one based upon the soon to be outdated models, it cannot be assured in the time frame of your planned revision to the subject notebooks.
Therefore, the information requested by Mr. Tschilitz will be provided when available upon completion of the revised models which is anticipated to occur in the March to May 2005 time frame. In the interim, the information already incorporated in the subject notebooks reflects the information that can be derived from our current plant PRA models. If you have comments regarding this notification, please contact Mr. W. E. Burns, SNC Supervisor of PRA Services, at (205) 992-6416.
Sincerely, L. M. Stinson LMS/JMG 1-J
