In his September 2, 2004 letter, Mr. Michael Tschiltz, Chief of the Probabilistic Safety Assessment Branch, requested that certain Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) information be provided to his office for use in the updating of the Significance Determination Process (SDP) risk-informed inspection notebooks for Southern Nuclear Operating Company's (SNC) three plants. Circumstances related to the timing of SNC's three PRA periodic updates suggest that a more effective time for submittal of the requested information would be during the first quarter of 2005, rather than the requested thirty days from receipt of the referenced letter.
Mr. William Bums, SNC Supervisor of PRA Services, discussed these circumstances with Mr. Michael Franovich of the Probabilistic Safety Assessment Branch, and it was agreed that the delayed submittal would provide a more beneficial response at a time which would be more opportune for the NRC staff in terms of its workload in addressing some seventy other SDP inspection notebooks.
Therefore, barring unforeseen delays in the pending updates of the PRAs for SNC plants, the information requested by Mr. Tschiltz will be provided in accordance with the following dates: Plants Farley and Hatch, February 15, 2005; Plant Vogtle, March 1, 2005.
