Vogtle Electric Generating Plant (VEGP) submitted the 2001 Annual Radioactive Effluent Release Report as Attachment m of letter LCV-1621 dated May 13, 2002.

Section 2.6 of the report discussed an abnormal release from the Waste Gas Decay Tank (WGDT) #4 that occurred on April 12, 2001.

A pressure drop of 25 psig in the WGDT was documented in the initial report; however, no value for the amount of curies or dose that was released was given because no quantified samples were obtained. Following a discussion with Mr. Elden Testa of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission - Region II, an estimate of the release involved was calculated and is hereby submitted as an addendum to Section 2.6 of the original report.

The method used to estimate the release was based on the pressure drop in the WGDT during the event, which provided a calculated value of 1.24 curies as the estimated total release. VEGP procedures are being enhanced to provide guidance for possible future events.

Air dose changes as a result of the April 12, 2001, event are as follows:

Gamma air dose for the year increased from 2.80E-05 mrad to 3.43E-05 mrad.

Beta air dose for the year increased from 1.34E-05 mrad to 1.49E-04 mrad.

All parameters remain within the limits of the Offsite Dose Calculation Manual.

This letter contains no NRC commitments. If you have any questions, please advise.

Sincerely, Jeffrey T. asser JTG/TEW/anp I
