FITNESS FOR DUTY

SUMMARY

Management Actions During the six-month period ending June 30, 2003 Duane Arnold Energy Center conducted 942 drug and alcohol tests in accordance with 10 CFR Part 26.

Duane Arnold Energy Center workers are subject to random drug and alcohol testing. Random drug testing rate for the six-month period ending July 31, 2003 was 22.3%.

For the semi-annual reporting period ending December 31, 2002, four contract workers (4)workers were denied nuclear access after testing positive for drugs during pre-access testing. One (1) contract worker was terminated after testing for detectable alcohol (less than .04 BAC).

Pre-Access Positives One (1)contractor employee tested positive for marijuana and three (3) contractor employees tested positive for cocaine.

These individuals were denied access to NMC nuclear facilities.

2. For the semi-annual period referenced herein all blind specimens submitted to Duane Arnold Energy Center's HHS-certified laboratory yielded expected results.
3. NMC has analyzed program performance data for the six-month period ending December 31, 2002, and has revised existing FFD procedures to incorporate enhancements as indicated by the analysis.

Reportable Events Duane Amold Energy Center had no reportable events as defined in 10 CFR Part 26.73 (a) during this reporting period.
