I am following up to an email my colleague, Jill Caverly, sent you on March 17, 2026. Attached is a draft environmental assessment for an exemption, in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations72.7, from certain requirements applicable to the use of the MAGNASTOR Storage System.
Specifically, the exemption would allow Duke to maintain one loaded and to load nine new transportable storage canisters (TSCs) in the MAGNASTOR Storage System at the CNS ISFSI, despite the TSCs in the MAGNASTOR Storage System not being in compliance with the terms, conditions, and specifications in the Certificate of Compliance No. 1031, Amendment No. 15. This is discussed on pages 3 - 6 of the attached document.
Please review the attached EA and let me know if you have any comments. The NRC would like to request a 5-10 day review for this exemption. I apologize for the request for a quick turnaround on this matter, this is a high priority project for us. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, and we appreciate your attention to this.
