SUBJECT:
CRCPD REQUEST FOR 60-DAY EXTENSION TO REVIEW STREAMLINING CONTESTED ADJUDICATIONS IN LICENSING PROCEEDINGS DOCKET ID:
Dear Chairperson Mulligan:
Thank you for your March 4, 2026, letter on behalf of the Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors requesting a 60-day extension to the comment period for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's proposed rule "Streamlining Contested Adjudications in Licensing Proceedings." The NRG is deeply interested in stakeholder perspectives on the proposed rule.
After considering the issue, the NRG continues to believe that the current 30-day comment period is appropriate and therefore denies the request for extension. Prompt action on this rule is necessary to address the national energy emergency declared in Executive Order (E.O.)
14156 and to achieve the efficient and timely licensing and rulemaking required by the ADVANCE Act of 2024 and E.O. 14300. To assist stakeholders in submitting meaningful comment, the NRG has made additional materials available on Regulations.gov at https://www.regulations.gov/docket/NRC-2025-1501, including an unofficial redline of proposed changes to the current regulations and flowcharts that illustrate the proposed rule's changes to the hearing process. The NRG will also hold a public information meeting on March 19, 2026.
Details for this meeting are available at https ://www.nrc.gov/pm ns/mtg?do=details&Code=20260218.
Thank you for your letter, and please contact me if I can be of further service at David.Taggart@nrc.gov or 301-415-7320.
Sincerely,
~=~~J Acting General Counsel
