COOPER NUCLEAR STATION - EXEMPTION FROM THE REQUIREMENTS OF 10 CFR 50.46 TO USE GLOBAL NUCLEAR FUEL (EPID L-2025-LLE-0027)
Dear Mr. Dent:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (the Commission) has approved the enclosed exemption from specific requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR),
Section 50.46, Acceptance criteria for emergency core cooling systems for light-water nuclear power reactors, for Cooper Nuclear Station (Cooper). This action is in response to your request dated October 16, 2025 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)
Accession No. (ML25289A274).
Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD, the licensee) requested an exemption pursuant to 10 CFR 50.12, Specific exemptions, to permit the use of a limited number of Global Nuclear Fuel (GNF) GNF4 lead use assemblies, with GNF-Ziron cladding material, co-resident with the currently licensed GNF2 fuel assemblies in the reactor core.-
A copy of the exemption is enclosed. Notice of Issuance for the exemption will be included in the Commissions Federal Register notice.
