ABSTRACT Between September 9 and November 3, and December 10 and 11, 2024, Cultural Resource Analysts, Inc., personnel completed a phase I archaeological survey for the proposed Paducah Global Laser Enrichment Facility project in McCracken County, Kentucky. The survey was conducted at the request of Bacon Farmer Workman Engineering & Testing, Inc., on behalf of Global Laser Emichment.

The total area investigated for archaeological resources covers approximately 130.1 ha (321.6 acres).

The entire project area was surveyed for archaeological resources using methods that included systematic screened shovel testing, pedestrian survey, and visual inspection of obviously disturbed areas.

Prior to initiating field investigations, a records review was conducted at the Office of State Archaeology for a 2 km radius around the proposed project area. A review was conducted of records on file at the Office of State Archaeology. As a result of the records review, one previous survey was noted to overlap with the current project area. No previously recorded archaeological sites are within or adjacent to the project area.

As a result of the current survey, three previously unrecorded archaeological sites (l 5McN253-l 5McN255) and an isolated find (IF 1) were identified. Site 15McN253 is a historic farmstead/residence dating to the early through mid-twentieth century. Site l 5McN254 is historic farmstead/residence dating to the late nineteenth through twentieth centuries. Site 15McN255 is a historic outbuilding at a farmstead dating to the late nineteenth through twentieth centuries. Isolated Find 1 is a precontact flake that cannot be attributed to a cultural/temporal period. As a result of the investigation, Sites 15McN253-15McN255 and Isolated Find 1 were determined to not have archaeological integrity and are recommended not eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. No further work is recommended for these sites and archaeological clearance is recommended for the project.
