NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION NONDESTRUCTIVE EXAMINATION TECHNICAL INFORMATION EXCHANGE PARTIALLY CLOSED PUBLIC MEETING (HYBRID)
On January 21 - 22, 2026, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held an annual partially closed (1.5 days observation and 0.5 day closed) public meeting with representatives from the nuclear industry. The meeting facilitated an exchange of technical information on the industrys ongoing nondestructive examination (NDE) programs, with a focus on current and emerging NDE issues at nuclear power plants, research, and lessons learned from recent operating experience. Many of the licensees representatives also hold advisory roles to the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) NDE Program as members of the Research Integration Committee (RIC).
A wide range of NDE-related technical topics was discussed during the meeting. Examples of topics include updates on American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Code actions, advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning for NDE applications, NDE of nonmetallic repairs such as carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) linings and coatings, and ultrasonic testing in lieu of radiographic testing for construction and fabrication.
