Hatch SLR EA for State review_2026-01-30.pdf Hello David Matos:

Please find attached an Environmental Assessment (EA) prepared by the staff of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The EA provides the NRC staffs evaluation of the potential environmental impacts of license renewal for the Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant (HNP).

On May 15, 2025, Southern Nuclear Corporation (SNC) submitted its request for license renewal at the HNP, which is a boiling water reactor (Units 1 and 2), located approximately 11 miles (mi) (18 kilometers [km]) north of Baxley, Georgia on the Altamaha River, in Toombs and Appling Counties.

The current facility operating licenses for Units 1 and 2 (DPR-57 and NPF-5) are set to expire at midnight on August 6, 2034, and June 13, 2038, respectively. If approved, SNCs licenses would be renewed for an additional 20 years.

The non-public (draft) EA is for review by staff of the State of Georgia only, it should not be disclosed outside of the State of Georgia without prior written NRC permission. Please review the EA and provide any comments by Friday, February 28, 2025.

Password will be provided in a separate email. Please contact me with any questions you may have.
