SUBJECT:

BYRON STATION, UNIT 2, REQUEST FOR INFORMATION FOR NRC

POST-APPROVAL SITE INSPECTION FOR LICENSE RENEWAL, PHASE 2,

INSPECTION REPORT 05000455/2026010

Dear Christopher H. Mudrick:

On May 18, 2026, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will begin a

Post-Approval Site Inspection for License Renewal, Phase 2, at Byron Station, Unit 2. This

inspection will be performed in accordance with NRC Inspection Procedure (IP) 71003. This

inspection will focus on verifying that license conditions added as part of your renewed

license and a sample of license renewal commitments have been implemented.

To minimize the inspection impact on the site and to ensure a productive inspection for

both parties, we have enclosed a request for information needed for the inspection. It is

important that all these documents are up-to-date and complete to minimize the number of

additional documents requested during the preparation and/or the on-site portions of the

inspection. Information should be provided electronically. This information request has been

divided into two groups:

The first group lists information necessary for our initial inspection scoping and in-office

preparation activities. During the in-office preparation activities, the inspector will

identify as much as possible the information and activities to be reviewed during the

inspection. This information should be provided to the inspector by April 13, 2026.

The second group includes the additional information required for the inspector to review

the selected activities. This information should be available to the inspector 1 week

before arriving onsite or May 11, 2026. It is also requested that corrective action

documents and/or questions developed during the inspection be provided to the

inspector as the documents are generated.

The lead inspector for this license renewal inspection is Joon Park. We understand that our

primary contact for this inspection is Gerald Armstrong of your organization. If there are any

questions about the inspection or the material requested in the enclosure, please contact

the lead inspector at 630-829-9715 or via email at Joon.Park@nrc.gov.
