ASSIGNMENT OF PROJECT NUMBER FOR ENERGYSOLUTIONS PREAPPLICATION ACTIVITIES FOR A MAJOR LICENSING ACTION FOR A NEW NUCLEAR PLANT AT THE KEWAUNEE POWER STATION SITE IN WISCONSIN

Dear Ms. Hazelhoff:

On January 7, 2026, you submitted a Letter of Intent and requested a project number for preapplication activities related a future EnergySolutions application for a major licensing action for the Kewaunee Power Station (KPS) site in the Town of Carlton, Kewaunee County, Wisconsin. 1 Your letter indicated that an application for an Early Site Permit, Construction Permit, or Combined License are currently under evaluation and anticipate submission by June 2028.

On January 9, 2026, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) established Project No.: 99902159 for the preapplication activities associated with this project. Please include this number in all correspondence associated with this project.

The NRC staff will begin to charge fees in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 170, Fees for Facilities, Materials, Import and Export Licenses, and Other Regulatory Services Under the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as Amended, for the licensing and review of this application and any preapplication activities.

The NRC staff notes that certain preapplication activities may qualify for the reduced hourly rate.2 For example, preapplication activities described in a licensing project plan (or regulatory engagement plan) submitted to the NRC for the purpose of submitting a future qualifying application may qualify for the reduced hourly rate. Additional information on qualifying for the reduced hourly rate may be found on the NRC public website.3 1 Letter from A.
