Submittal of 9979 Type AF Shipping Package SAR for Review (Docket 71-9979)
The Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) Nonproliferation and Packaging Technology organization is requesting the review of a revision to the 9979 Type AF Packaging Safety Analysis Report (S-SAR-G-00002, Rev.
- 2) to support a CoC amendment. The proposed content amendment comprises HEU material currently approved in the DOE-EM CoC for the 9979.
This initial submittal includes all chapters of the SAR. References will be submitted upon request.
This request supports upcoming shipments from the BWXT Nuclear Fuel Services (NFS) facility in Erwin, TN commencing April 2026. The requested priority of this request is closely tied to a reduction of the compliant storage space at the facility incurred by Hurricane Helene, and the delays associated with the US government shutdown this Fall.
