Enclosure L-Pl-25-047 Response to RCI for RR-001 NSPM Northern States Power Company, a Minnesota corporation, doing business as Xcel Energy (hereafter "NSPM"), submitted a 10 CFR 50.55a request associated with the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plants, Units 1 and 2, lnservice Testing Program (Reference 1 ). On November 18, 2025, the NRC issued a request for confirmatory information (RCI) (Reference 2). Below is the NRC RCI question (in italics) and the NSPM response.
Question 1:
Request for Confirmatory Information (RC/)
The licensee submitted Request 6-IST-RR-01 for Prairie Island, Units 1 and 2, as an alternative request under 10 CFR 50.55a(z)(1) as providing an acceptable level of quality and safety. In the submittal, the licensee states that the pump bearings for the two Diesel Driven Cooling Water (DDCL) pumps are inaccessible for vibration measurements. The licensee a/so states that to remove the bearing housing cover for the Motor Driven Cooling Water (MDCL) pump is a potential personnel hazard while the pump is running and thus taking direct readings is not practical. With these reasons specified in the request, the NRC staff considers that the request is more appropriate as a relief request than an alternative request. The licensee is requested to confirm that the submittal can be evaluated as a relief request under 10 CFR 50.55a(f)(5) and (f)(6).
Response to Question 1 NSPM confirms that the submittal (Reference 1) can be evaluated as a relief request under 10 CFR 50.55a(f)(5) and (f)(6).
