- During performance of Job 2351 1994.501, nine pits were identified in the Instrument Tunnel Sump (Incore Pit) Liner following coating removal. Utilizing a pit gauge, l engineering measured the pit depths which range from 1/16in. to 3/32 in. Callaway calculated the
. minimum wall thickness required for the
_ containment liner for conditions of generalized and l localized thinning by conservatively assuming different size voids in the concrete containment structure immediately behind the liner plate (RFR 019682 and Cale 2Z-475). This calculation l
concluded that a liner wall thickness of 1/8" (or 0.125") is allowed for areas of localized liner
- defects or thinning that are less than 5 in
- diameter. No voids were detected in or around the l
afeas with pitting. This liner is % in thick carbon l steel. With these pits, the liner maintains a wall l
thickness over 4/8 in. This is within the allowances documented in RFR 019682 and Calc 22-475. No weld repairs are needed at this time. New coating will be installed in these areas to protect the pits l from the borated water and prevent the further deterioration of this pitting. Job 2351 1994.520 will apply new coating. These pits were also vacuum tested under Job 23511994.503 and tested SAT whichinsures the pressure boundaryis
