Office of Administration Mail Stop: TWFN-7-A60M U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555-0001 ATTN: Program Management, Announcements and Editing Staff Don Bryant 44133 I oppose licensing of operation of the proposed Paducah Laser Enrichment Facility Fuel enrichment capability is preliminary or experimental and weapons enrichment effects must be addressed because it is foreseeable that laser enrichment will spin off.
According to the U.S. EPA: "More than five decades of plant operations resulted in generation of hazardous wastes, radioactive wastes, mixed (hazardous and radioactive) wastes, and other wastes.
Releases of these wastes contaminated soil, groundwater, surface water and sediment at the plant and beyond the plant boundary. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency listed the PGDP as a Superfund site on the National Priorities List (NPL) in 1994." In addition, in 1988, DOE found Tc-99 in an offsite drinking water well north of the facility.
