Potential typographical errors/incorrect units in the Environmental Report for your consideration Good afternoon Mark & Milton, As we discussed at the conclusion of our site audit and noted in our recent Information Needs Revision 5 ML25260A594, we are actively drafting RAIs and RCIs and will issue some draft questions for your information before any formal RCIs or RAIs are issued.
However, in the interim, our Team identified some minor discrepancies (typos/units) in the Environmental Report ML25090A063 and we wanted to pass them along to you. Be advised these issues do not affect our technical analysis so you can do with these comments as you see fit.
In the ER SW sections:
Page 2.3-3: The estimated average naturalized mean daily flow for that period is 3002 cubic feet per second (cfs) (85.01 cubic meters per second [m3/s]) with an average annual flow volume of 2,174,215 ac-ft (2,681,850,718 m3). The USGS observed flows at the Guadalupe River at Tivoli, Texas, station for the same period were an average flow of 1582 cfs (44.80 m3/s) and average annual volume of 95,436 ac-ft (117,718,573 m3).
Values of ac-ft and m^3 for the observed flows (1,582 cfs) are too small. They should be approximately half of those reported in the previous sentence about natural flows.
Page 2.3-11: Daily water temperatures over the period from 1987 to 2016 ranged from regular minimum winter temperatures in January to February of approximately 36 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit (°F) (2.2 to 4.4 degrees Celsius [°C]) and maximum summer temperatures in July to August of approximately 56 to 57 °F (13 to 14 °C). These reported coastal water temperatures seem far too low. Checking observation data Water Data For Texas for the SANT station reflect summer water temperatures above 30 degrees C.
Page 2.3-17: Salinity ranged from 0.16 to 2.1 parts per trillion in all monitored locations. We believe that these should be parts per thousand. (Tables correctly reflect parts per thousand).
Page 3.3-1: Plant water use is required to support makeup for various plant systems and processes including the following (all flows below are based on normal operating condition): Makeup for steam consumption supporting SDO operations (547 ft3/sec or 54 percent of total intake flow). Makeup for water treatment processes (346 ft3/sec or 34 percent of total intake flow). Miscellaneous makeup for demineralized water systems, including cooling systems (87 ft3/sec or 9 percent of total intake flow).Miscellaneous makeup for Service Water Systems (21.4 ft3/sec or 2 percent of total intake flow). Units should be m^3/hour not ft^3/s.
From Uranium Fuel Cycle Impacts Section 5.7-1: Hyphenated words most likely resulting from formatting conversions.
- p. 789 page 5.7 4th paragraph from the top word dif-ferent is hyphenated.
- p. 790 p. 5.7-4 last paragraph the word con-version is hyphenated.
