UNIVERSITY OF UTAH - APPROVAL OF UPDATE OF 10 CFR PART 55, OPERATORS LICENSES OPERATOR TRAINING
Dear Dr. Goodell:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approved special refresher training under Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Part 55, Operators Licenses, paragraph 55.59(b) for senior reactor operators (SROs) at the University of Utah TRIGA Nuclear Reactor (UUTR) by letter dated May 16, 2025 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML2507A203). This letter is in response to the University of Utahs request dated August 22, 2025 (ML25233A276), that requested NRC approve the use of Kansas State University (KSU) Research Reactor Facility as an approved alternative location for special refresher training. The original special refresher training plan, as described in UUTR letter dated February 10, 2025 (ML25050A613), designated Reed Research Reactor as the location for special refresher training based on similarities between the facilities.
The NRC staff has reviewed and approved the use of KSU as an alternate location to conduct the special refresher training as outlined in UUTR letters dated February 10, 2025 and August 22, 2025 (ML25050A613 and ML25233A276, respectively).
