SUMMARY
OF JUNE 26, 2025, MEETING WITH EXTERNAL STAKEHOLDERS DISCUSSING OPTIONS FOR A FOLLOW-ON ENHANCED WEAPONS RULEMAKING On June 26, 2025, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a virtual public meeting using Microsoft Teams with approximately 21 participants. The NRC staff conducted the meeting in accordance with NRC Management Directive 3.5, Attendance at NRC Staff-Sponsored Meetings (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)
Accession No. ML21180A271). During this meeting NRC staff discussed options for a follow-on Enhanced Weapons rulemaking. A follow-on Enhanced Weapons rulemaking would designate additional classes of facilities and activities as eligible to apply for Section 161A authority. On March 14, 2023, the NRC published the final Enhanced Weapons Rule (EWR) in the Federal Register (88 FR 15864) containing regulations (see 10 CFR 73.15(c)) designating classes of facilities and activities eligible to apply for preemption authority and enhanced weapons authority under Section 161A of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended.
