Dear Mr. Gossick:
During ACRS review of the application for a construction permit for the Callaway Plant, Units 1 and 2, Dr. Stepp of the NRC Staff made a presentation which summarized well the current Staff approach to the evaluation of seismic design bases for most of the U.S. east of the Rockies.
The Committee believes it would be useful to have the Staff position written up in some detail, so that it may more readily be reviewed and utilized as appropriate.
The Committee recommends that this be done.
