Notice of Availability of Generic Environmental Impact Statement Regarding Subsequent

License Renewal for Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station

Good day,

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff is conducting a review of the environmental effects of the proposed renewal of the operating licenses for Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station Units 2 and 3 (Peach Bottom) for an additional 20 years. Peach Bottom is operated by Constellation Energy Generation, LLC, formerly Exelon Generating Company, LLC (Exelon), and is located in York County, Pennsylvania. Exelon submitted an application for Peach Bottom subsequent license renewal (SLR) by letter dated July 10, 2018, pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Part 54, Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants.

As part of the review, the NRC staff has prepared a draft supplement for the Peach Bottom SLR application to address new information obtained since the final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement was published. In accordance with 36 CFR 800.8(c), the NRC is using the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, as amended process to comply with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended.

As discussed in the draft supplement, the NRC staffs preliminary determination is that SLR would have no adverse effect to historic properties. Further, the NRCs preliminary recommendation is that the adverse environmental impacts of SLR for Peach Bottom are not so great that preserving the option of license renewal for energy-planning decision-makers would be unreasonable.

Pursuant to 36 CFR 800.8(c), we are requesting your comments on the draft supplement and on the NRC staffs preliminary determination and recommendation within 30 days. Comments, questions, and concerns may be submitted to Beau Goldstein, staff archaeologist at Beau.Goldstein@nrc.gov.

Respectfully,

Beau J. Goldstein, RPA Environmental Project Manager U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Office of Nuclear Materials Safety and Safeguards
