Viktoria Mitlyng, 630-829-9662 Prema Chandrathil, 630-829-9663 NRC to Hold Open House to Discuss 2024 Performance of Point Beach Nuclear Power Plant Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the 2024 safety performance of the Point Beach nuclear plant during the Village of Mishicot Boards public meeting June 17. The plant, in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, is operated by NextEra Energy Point Beach.

The NRC will present its assessment during the meeting scheduled for 6-7 p.m. Central time at the Village of Mishicot, 511 E. Main St., in Mishicot. Members of the public will be able to observe the NRCs presentation and then speak directly with NRC staff after the meeting adjourns.

Due to the nature of the meeting, the end time is approximate. Details can be found in the meeting notice.

The NRC will discuss its assessment of the plants 2024 performance. Staff responsible for plant inspection and oversight, including the resident inspectors based at the site, will be available to address any regulatory or technical questions and concerns.

The NRC determined that Point Beach operated safely during 2024. All inspection findings and performance indicators were green or very low safety significance. As a result, the plant remains under the NRCs baseline level of oversight, which entails thousands of hours of inspection each year.

The NRC Reactor Oversight Process uses color-coded inspection findings and indicators to measure plant performance. The colors start at green and increase to white, yellow or red, based on the safety significance of the issues involved. Inspection findings or performance indicators with more than a very low safety significance trigger an increase of NRC oversight.

Plant inspections are performed by two NRC resident inspectors and inspection specialists from the agencys Region III Office in Naperville, Illinois.

The annual assessment letter for Point Beach is available on the NRC website. Current performance information for Unit 1 and Unit 2 is also available on the NRC website and updated on a quarterly basis.
