BACKFITTING REQUIREMENTS October 17, 1984 Since our letter to you of September 14, 1982 and the letter from Mr. Fraley to Mr. Dircks of June 18, 1984, the ACRS has had several informative inter-actions with the various NRC personnel involved in the development of an NRC policy on plant-specific backfitting. This letter is just to express to you our continued interest in the matter, and our hope that we may have the opportunity to comment as the situation unfolds.
We are particularly interested in the dual track being followed by the Commission -- the development of a new rule to replace the current one, and the issuance of a Manual Chapter for interim usage.
We are somewhat uneasy about the level of coordination between the two efforts and the way in which the new Chapter is being implemented in the interim.
