Dave Gasperson, 404-997-4417 NRC Schedules Virtual Meeting to Discuss Safety Performance of Global Nuclear Fuel Plant Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will hold a virtual public meeting May 8 to discuss the two-year safety performance review of the Global Nuclear Fuel - Americas fuel fabrication facility in Wilmington, North Carolina.
The meeting will run from 5-6 p.m. Eastern time and will be held using Microsoft Teams.
The telephone conference number for those without access to Teams is 301-576-2978, passcode 473515474#. NRC staff who inspect the facility will present the results of the review and then answer questions from the public.
NRC inspections at fuel cycle facilities focus on the most important areas related to safety and safeguards. These inspections occur multiple times a year and cover physical protection, material control and accounting, nuclear criticality safety, plant operations, fire safety, emergency preparedness, radiological controls, and other areas.
Staff from the NRCs Atlanta regional office and headquarters reviewed GNF-As performance from Jan. 1, 2023, through Dec. 31, 2024. They found that GNF-A continued to conduct its activities safely and met NRC requirements for protecting workers, nearby residents, and the environment.
