OF MAY 15, 2025, MEETING BETWEEN THE U.S.
NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION STAFF, PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY, AND THE yak tityu tityu yak tiłhini NORTHERN CHUMASH TRIBE On May 15, 2025, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a virtual meeting with representatives from Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) and the yak tityu tityu yak tiłhini Northern Chumash Tribe (ytt) related to the proposed license renewal for Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, Units 1 and 2 (Diablo Canyon). A list of NRC, PG&E, and ytt attendees is provided at the end of this summary.
The meeting began with a brief introduction by NRC staff, who noted that ongoing conversations conducted as part of its National Historic Preservation Act Section 106 consultations resulted in a mutual interest in providing the ytt access to culturally important areas of the Diablo Canyon site. The purpose of the meeting was to bring PG&E and ytt together to discuss a path forward for establishing a formal site access agreement and protocol. During the meeting, PG&E representatives outlined the framework for a pilot program to allow site access and answered questions from the ytt related to logistical considerations.
