Dear Mr. Dodaro:
June 13, 2025 On behalf of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), I am responding to your May 5, 2025, letter providing an update on the overall status of the NRC's implementation of the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) recommendations and calling to my attention those open recommendations to which GAO believes the NRC should give high priority. Those recommendations are related to the security of radiological sources, the reliability of cost estimates, and improving risk-informed decision-making. The Commission recognizes GAO's concerns regarding the open recommendations. Please find in the enclosure an update on the actions that the NRC is taking to address GAO's remaining priority recommendations.
The NRC appreciates the efforts of GAO to identify opportunities to improve operations.
