  • Email: hoo.hoc@nrc.gov
  • Fax: 301-816-5151
  • The NRC Operations Center is staffed 24/7
  • Notifications of reportable events and emergencies must be made by telephone to the Operations Center

Notifications to the Operations Center 3

  • Reportable Events
  • Emergency Declarations
  • Security Events

Making a Report 4

  • The notification will start by the Operations Officer gathering contact information for the individual making the report
  • The report should include:

- What requirement the notification is being reported under

- Applicable who, where, when, and why information

- Actions that have been taken

- The status of the reactor and any applicable systems

  • An Event Notification (EN) number will be issued

Emergency Notifications

  • The Operations Officer will ask what EAL are you reporting under, what could escalate the emergency, what will deescalate the emergency
  • The caller may be asked to stay on the line to discuss the emergency with NRC management
  • The NRC will make the determination if the NRCs incident response program needs to be activated 5

Suspicious Activity Reports

  • Reporting requirements are contained in 10 CFR 73, Subpart T
  • Suspicious activity reports are used to help track potential threats across the industry

- Specific information like names, vehicle type, license plate numbers, etc. are valuable information

  • Procedures may need to be updated/ created for this new requirement to fall inline with the PSP 6

After a Report is Made 7

  • The Operations Officer will notify the applicable Project Manager and inspector
  • The next day working day the event will be published to the public website, unless it is a security event
  • The inspection staff will follow-up on the event during the next applicable inspection
  • The event will be closed out in an inspection report

Retracting an Event

  • Event notifications that are later determined to not meet the reporting requirements may be retracted
  • Call the Operations Officer to retract an event
  • The EN will still show up on the public website since it already has an EN#, but it will be revised to include your retraction statement. The EN will not be an open item
