Dave Gasperson, 404-997-4417 NRC to Hold Virtual Meeting on BWXT Fuel Facility Safety Performance Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will hold a virtual public meeting on April 24 to discuss its two-year safety performance review of the BWXT Nuclear Operations Group Inc. fuel fabrication facility in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The meeting will run from 1-2 p.m. Eastern and will be held using Microsoft Teams. The telephone conference number for those without access to Teams is 301-576-2978, passcode 735021475#. NRC staff who inspect the facility will present the results of the review and then answer questions from the public.
Staff from the NRCs Atlanta regional office and headquarters reviewed BWXTs performance from Jan. 1, 2023, through Dec. 31, 2024. The team assessed safety operations, safeguards, radiological controls, facility support, and other areas. They found that BWXT continued to conduct its activities safely and met NRC requirements for protecting workers, nearby residents, and the environment.
The NRC has a senior resident inspector stationed at the BWXT facility who provides ongoing oversight, supported by additional inspections from regional specialists throughout the year.
