No: 25-022 April 18, 2025 CONTACT: Office of Public Affairs, 301-415-8200 NRC Announces New Director of the Office of Commission Appellate Adjudication The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has announced the selection of Catherine Kanatas as Director of the Office of Commission Appellate Adjudication, effective April 20. The Office of Commission Appellate Adjudication is responsible for assisting the Commission in the exercise of its quasi-judicial functions. She most recently served as acting director of the office.
Kanatas joined the NRC as an attorney in the Office of the General Counsels Honor Law Graduate Program. Since that time, she has held leadership roles in corporate, technical, and legal offices, including Deputy Associate Director for HR Operations and Policy, Acting Deputy Division Director in the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards, and Deputy Assistant General Counsel for Operating Reactors. She also has served in roles at the Commission level, including Chief of Staff to Commissioner David A. Wright, Deputy Chief of Staff and Legal Counsel to Chairman Kristine L. Svinicki, and as acting Legal Counsel to Commissioner William C. Ostendorff.
Kanatas is a graduate of Wake Forest University and the University of Georgia School of Law.
