UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, O.C. 20555-0001 June 16, 2025 Jeffrey B. Clark Sr., Acting Administrator Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs Office of Management and Budget 725 17th Street, NW Washington, DC 20503
Dear Mr. Clark,
On behalf of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), I am providing the NRC's response to Executive Order (EO) 14219, "Ensuring Lawful Governance and Implementing the President's 'Department of Government Efficiency' Deregulatory Initiative." Many of the NRC's regulations, including recent rulemaking efforts related to advanced nuclear reactors and fusion machines, benefit the national interest by enabling technological innovation, infrastructure development, economic development, and energy production.
The NRC has reviewed our regulations and guidance, consistent with section 2(a) of EO 14219. In the enclosure, the NRC has identified regulations that meet the cost-versus-benefit criterion in section 2(a). The NRC's associated deregulatory actions are indicated in the notes column of the enclosure.
The NRC is also committed to using the tools provided by recent legislation and Presidential Actions to further reduce regulatory burden. For example, the NRC is considering opportunities to allow for greater flexibilities and efficiencies as part of its Accelerating Deployment of Versatile, Advanced Nuclear for Clean Energy Act of 2024 (ADVANCE Act) implementation activities. Additionally, the NRC is implementing EO 14300 "Ordering the Reform of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission."
We look forward to working with Office of Management and Budget and other partners to realize the benefits of these deregulatory initiatives, and to do our part to support Unleashing American Energy.
Sincerely,
(
David A. Wright
