STAFF REQUIREMENTS - BRIEFING ON MICRO-REACTORS:
CURRENT STATUS AND MOVING FORWARD On April 10, 2025, the Commission was briefed by NRC staff members and a panel of external participants on an overview of micro-reactor programs, both external and internal to the NRC, and the path forward to micro-reactor licensing. The external participants included Bill Jessup, Director of Nuclear Technology, Shepherd Power; Anthony Schoedel, Manager, Advanced Reactors Licensing Engineering, Westinghouse Electric Company; Diane Li, Program Manager, Micro-reactor Program, Department of Energy; Marc Nichol, Executive Director of New Nuclear, Nuclear Energy Institute; and Mohammed (Mo) Badal, Program Director, Installation Nuclear Energy, Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Energy and Sustainability.
The meeting, which was held in the Commissioners Hearing Room, One White Flint North, Rockville, Maryland at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time, was open to members of the public attending in person and via webcast.
The Commission identified no requirements for staff action.
