PUBLIC SUBMISSION As of: 2/28/25, 8:03 AM Received: February 27, 2025 Status: Pending_Post Tracking No. m7n-owgn-bs56 Comments Due: March 03, 2025 Submission Type: Web Docket: NRC-2024-0076 Holtec Decommissioning International, LLC and Holtec Palisades, LLC; Palisades Nuclear Plant; Draft Environmental Assessment and Draft Finding of No Significant Impact (retitled from Notice of Intent to Conduct Scoping Process and Prepare an Environmental Assessment Holtec Decommissioning International, LLC and Holtec Palisades, LLC; Palisades Nuclear Plant, Unit 1)
Comment On: NRC-2024-0076-0111 Holtec Decommissioning International, LLC and Holtec Palisades, LLC; Palisades Nuclear Plant; Draft Environmental Assessment and Draft Finding of No Significant Impact Document: NRC-2024-0076-DRAFT-0114 Comment on FR Doc # 2025-01997 Submitter Information Name: Anonymous Anonymous General Comment The report is shallow and vague. There are no details about how much nuclear waste is stored there now, and how much more will be added. Or, how many of the valves, welds and components have been replaced or re-tested. I've worked in engineering for over 40 years and know that any machine that uses high pressure, high heat and high vibration will fail SIGNIFICANTLY at some point.
The real reason Holtec company wants to restart the Palisades plant is simple - They get free money from the Democratic Green give-away program, will not need to spend much on 'retro-fitting' and stand to make great profits, while adding more nuclear waste stored on the shore of 1/5 of the worlds fresh water.
The local air-head politicians want to 'retain high paying jobs', but this plant is 50 years old and 10 years past its official decommissioning. In most of its 50-plus years its had several serious incidents resulting in large fines from the NRC, and many non-scheduled shut-downs. There are much safer jobs that pay well. Its simply not safe restarting it.
There are grave risks to Lake Michigan, the area water table and the people living nearby. I don't think Holtec nor the NRC are being completely honest about the possible issues with this restart. Perhaps if the people who did the actual testing and assessments were to publish their names and addresses, the report would be more trustworthy. That way, when the accident occurs and 100's of residents injured, they'll know who to call.
Please stop this nonsense, decommission the relic as planned, and clean up all the nuclear waste from the Lake Michigan shoreline.
