Upcoming request for State comments regarding an environmental assessment -
Peach Bottom units 2 and 3
Dear Bradley Fuller:
I am writing to you on behalf of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regarding a licensing action for the Constellation Energy Generation, LLC (Constellation), Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station Units 2 and 3, near Delta, Pennsylvania. The purpose of this email is to alert you to an upcoming draft environmental assessment (EA) that the NRC will send to you in advance of a licensing decision. The NRCs licensing action associated with this EA is high-priority and time sensitive, and we plan to send you the draft EA in late February or early March, 2025. If you have any comments regarding the information in the EA or the NRCs proposed licensing action, we will be requesting that you provide them as soon as possible, but no later than 10 days after receiving the EA.
The NRC staff is developing the EA to assess the impacts to the environment from the proposed action, which is an exemption, in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations 72.212(a)(2), 72.212(b)(3), 72.212(b)(5)(i), 72.212(b)(11),
and 72.214, from certain requirements applicable to the use of HI-STORM FW MPC-89 in the HI-STORM Flood/Wind (FW) Multi-purpose Canister (MPC) Storage System. Specifically, the exemption would allow Constellation to use the HI-TRAC VW transfer cask during loading and transport operations for MPC-89 at the Peach Bottom stations independent spent fuel storage facility.Constellation submitted this request in a letter dated January 24, 2025 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML25024A148).
If I have incorrectly identified you as the appropriate reviewing official, I kindly ask that you direct me to the appropriate State official for review of this matter. Please feel free to contact me or my colleague, Jill Caverly (copied), if you have questions or concerns.
Finally, please let me know that you have received this email.
Sincerely, Christine Pineda
