SUBJECT:

CLOSURE OF INFORMAL ASSISTANCE REQUEST (NSIR-2024-011), EVALUATION OF IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGIES FOR POTASSIUM IODIDE The purpose of this memorandum is to inform you that the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research (RES) has completed the activities for Informal Assistance Request (IAR) NSIR-2024-0011 (ML25049A224). For this IAR, RES staff worked closely with staff from the Division of Preparedness Response (DPR) and staff from Accident Analysis Branch (AAB) with Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research (RES) Division of System Analysis (DSA). This IAR was comprised of two tasks listed below:

Task 1:

Literature Review Assist RES/DSA/AAB in the review of existing scientific literature and policy to inform the effectiveness and potential implementation of various potassium iodide (KI) distribution and ingestion strategies in protecting the thyroid from inhaling or ingesting radioiodine.

Task 2:

Presentation to Stakeholders Work with staff DPR and RES/DSA/AAB to develop a summary presentation of Task 1 to other Federal agencies within the Federal Radiological Preparedness Coordinating Committee (FRPCC).
