Ms. Stancil and Ms. Bergmann:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff plans to issue an amendment to Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) for Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant (Hatch), Units 1 and 2, on approximately January 31, 2025.
By application dated February 20, 2024 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML24051A239), as supplemented by letter dated July 26, 2024 (ML24208A169), SNC requested changes to the Renewed Facility Operating Licenses (RFOL) for Hatch, Units 1 and 2. The proposed license amendment request (LAR) are associated with Hatchs adoption of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 50.69, Risk-informed categorization and treatment of structures, systems and components for nuclear power reactors. Specifically, the amendments modify a license condition to the Hatch RFOLs to allow the use of an alternative approach for evaluating seismic risk for categorization of structures, systems and components under Hatchs previously approved 10 CFR 50.69 program
and removes the requirements for the completion of certain pre-program implementation items that have been completed.
If the State of Georgia has comments on the LAR, please provide the comments by the close of business on January 17, 2025.
Best Regards, Dawnmathews T. Kalathiveettil Hatch Project Manager Plant Licensing Branch (LPL 2-1)
