Dear Director Walsh:
On behalf of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), I am writing to describe the actions planned in response to the recommendation identified in U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) Report, GAO-25-107041, "IT Portfolio Management: 0MB and Agencies Are Not Fully Addressing Selected Statutory Requirements," dated November 2024.
GAO Recommendation 39: The Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission should direct its agency CIO to work with 0MB to ensure that annual reviews of their IT portfolio are conducted in conjunction with the Federal CIO and the Chief Operating Officer or Deputy Secretary (or equivalent), as prescribed by FITARA.
NRC Action: The NRC is committed to ensuring that annual reviews of the agency IT portfolio are conducted in conjunction with the Federal CIO and the Executive Director for Operations (this agency's equivalent of the Chief Operating Officer or Deputy Secretary). The NRC staff has reached out to connect with the Federal CIO through 0MB and looks forward to identifying next steps.
