RE: RE: RE: DG-1436 Public Meeting Date:

Wednesday, January 15, 2025 4:53:00 PM

Dear Tom,

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know the results of your meeting with some advanced reactor developers and the ASME Sec III Committee regarding DG-1436, Acceptability of ASME Code,Section III, Division 5, High-Temperature Reactors. In response to your request, the NRC will extend the public comment period for 30 more days, which will now end on February 26, 2025.

In terms of the public meeting requested, the NRC is not against having a public meeting in March 2025. However, as stated in the DATES session of the FRN, during a public meeting after the public comment period ends, please be advised that consideration is given to those comments submitted in writing during the public commenting period. If any additional comments are raised during the public meeting, we may not be able to consider them during the preparation of the final Reg. Guide unless the public meeting is held during the public commenting period and the comments are submitted in writing.

Thanks,

[External_Sender] RE: RE: DG-1436 Public Meeting

Matt/Ramon - thanks for getting back to me. NEI held a meeting today with some advance reactor developers and ASME III committee members to gather and discuss comments on DG-1436. During the discussion it became apparent that more time was needed to develop the comments since there were other ASME III committee members and industry SMEs that were

needed, and to ensure alignment with the key ASME III committees on comments to be submitted. The next ASME Code meetings are from the last week of January through the first week of February 25. We are seeking to get a 30-day extension of the comment period which would be to February 26, 2025. This would allow the necessary developer and code committee interactions, development of comments and review by the industry.

Based on some of the potential comments, technical issues, and uniqueness of the approach it was also recommended to have a public meeting shortly after comments were submitted.

Knowing that the NRC RIC is the week of March 10th, we would seek a public meeting either the week before (wo March 3rd) or the week after (wo March 18th). Likely ask for a hybrid meeting for 4 hours4.62963e-5 days <br />0.00111 hours <br />6.613757e-6 weeks <br />1.522e-6 months <br />.

We have a letter drafted and ready to submit to request the extension and can submit that in the next day or two if there are no issues with extending the review period.

Please let me know or contact me or Kelli Voelsing (khv@ndi.org) if you have any questions or need any additional information.

Thanks, Tom Thomas Basso lSenior Director Engineering and Risk Nuclear Energy Institute 1201 F Street NW, Suite 1100 l Washington, DC 20004 tbb@nei.org
