U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION STAFF REVIEW OF THE DECEMBER 2024, INVESTIGATION INTO RISING WATER LEVELS AT THE GUNNISON, COLORADO, DISPOSAL SITE
Dear Ms. Hurt:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff is writing in response to the U.S.
Department of Energy, Office of Legacy Management (DOE-LM) document entitled, Investigation into Rising Water Levels at the Gunnison, Colorado, Disposal Site, dated December 2024 (Received December 4, 2024; Agencywide Documents Access and Management System [ADAMS] Package Accession No. ML24339B826).
NRC staff has reviewed the submittal and concurs with the report recommendations to continue water level elevation monitoring in the 0715 and 0724 wells using the installed transducers. The more continuous hydrogeologic information provided by the transducers, which will be downloaded every two years, and the manual water level measurements collected at the site on the same time interval, will provide valuable data for the monitoring program. Please keep us informed on the results of the monitoring efforts.
