[External_Sender] proceed with decommissioning the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant The Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant should be closed as soon as possible. We have been lucky that the Hosgri Fault below the plant has not moved and damaged the plant, releasing high-level nuclear material. It is foolish to depend on such luck.
The faulty #1-containment-vessel-material that is susceptible to embrittlement, fracture, and release of nuclear material makes the gamble of continuing operation of the plant even more foolish.
The billions of dollars that would be spent to continue plant operation, including a strain on the federal budget with the planned subsidy, need not be spent since solar and wind energy and battery storage of power for night use (which is the supposed justification of keeping Diablo Canyon running) are cheaper to build. Californias fast pace of sustainable energy installation could be resumed with an increase in the amount of power purchased from solar panel ownerswith the additional advantage of obviating the need for expensive new transmission lines.
