In response to your 03 July 2024 request for NRC endorsement of the NEI White Paper, Selection of a Seismic Scenario for an EPZ Boundary Determination, the staff has prepared the attached preliminary observations. The attached document also includes questions/comments raised by the staff during the 07 December 2023 public meeting, that were not addressed in the final version of the NEI white paper.
It would be helpful, if NEI could provide a presentation during the next public stakeholder meeting, scheduled for 12 Dec 2024, clarifying the key assumptions necessary to apply the methodology and other technical issues identified in the attachment. We understand that some of the comments requesting examples of the methodology or recommending table-top exercises may need to be addressed separately. We recommend a more in-depth technical interaction with the staff to properly understand the proposed approach before the staff can complete their review of the subject white paper and we welcome your thoughts to accomplish this review in a transparent and efficient way.
