I have lived in California for most of 45 years. I worked in the nuclear field and can understand the design capabilities, designed in safety and advantages of nuclear power generated electrical energy and the positive environmental impact that nuclear provides, especially for no release of green house gases.

I am writing to support the continued operation of Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant and relicensing for at least 20 more years. This plant is very efficient. It does not emit any greenhouse gas and operates almost 24 hours2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
a day for 365 days per year. It provides jobs for a large operations and maintenance force. It provides for manufacturing support for local businesses to support its operation and maintenance. This plant has operated with excellence for nearly 40 years and like other nuclear plants can relicensed to operate for at least another 20 or more years given the good maintenance and operation this plant has had over the years. The plant is projected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 10% by 2035 and doesnt have to do it with carbon capture or buying carbon credits. It does it by not emitting any greenhouse gasses during operation. Diablo Canyon can save $21 billion in power system costs by 2045 and hold rates reasonable for its customers. It is Californias only source of clean and reliable power and has been so for many useful years.

Do not listen to the antinuclear threats and excuses that have no basis in real fact. Diablo Canyon is an OPERATING EXAMPLE of clean and safe energy. It provides the 24 hour2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
operation that is needed to provide the needed energy when solar and wind are not available or not sufficient to power the grid.

Diablo Canyons electrical generation size also is critical to providing for grid stability that Californias grid lacks due to the prior shutdown of critical large scale nuclear and fossil plants like San Onofre Nuclear Plant. It had undergone an extensive upgrade and although there was a leaking steam generator, that could have been handled under warranty or plugged to repair the leaks and run at reduced power slightly and still run efficiently for many years. CA depends on a lot of fossil power generated by companies outside CA and most people are unaware of this. Where would CA gets if power if those 12/10/24, 1:32 PM blob:https://www.fdms.gov/8cc4bf05-0cbb-457c-80cf-2ffb1543be2f blob:https://www.fdms.gov/8cc4bf05-0cbb-457c-80cf-2ffb1543be2f 1/2 SUNSI Review Complete Template=ADM-013 E-RIDS=ADM-03 ADD: Kim Conway, Antoinette Walker-Smith, Mary Neely Comment (16)

utilities outside CA decided to shutdown or stop sending power to CA. California does not have the capability or resources to replace that electricity. That is another reason that Diablo Canyon is critical to preserve the energy infrastructure and support reliable electric power to its many customers here in California.

I strongly support the NRC to license this plant for many more years of reliable and safe nuclear power generated electricity, 12/10/24, 1:32 PM blob:https://www.fdms.gov/8cc4bf05-0cbb-457c-80cf-2ffb1543be2f blob:https://www.fdms.gov/8cc4bf05-0cbb-457c-80cf-2ffb1543be2f 2/2
