Dear Richard W. Boyle:
By letter dated August 21, 2024 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System
[ADAMS] Accession No. ML24236A212), the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) requested that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff perform a review of the Japanese Certificate of Competent Authority J/2026/AF-96 (Rev. 1), dated July 19, 2024, for the MX-6 transport package and make a recommendation concerning the revalidation of the package for import and export use.
In connection with the review, the NRC staff identified that additional information is needed before a decision can be made on the request. On December 13, 2024, the NRC staff conducted a conference call with your representatives for the purpose of clarifying the draft request for additional information (RAI) to ensure that it was clear before formal issuance to DOT. The draft RAI was previously provided to DOT and its representatives by email on November 29, 2024 (ML24351A096). Your response to the staffs RAI, as specified in the enclosure, should be provided to the NRC no later than January 10, 2025.
In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 2, Agency Rules of Practice and Procedure, a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR) or from the Publicly Available Records component of the NRCs ADAMS.
