SUMMARY
OF AUGUST 20-21, 2024, CLOSED TECHNOLOGY UPDATE MEETING BETWEEN U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION AND GE HITACHI AMERICAS, GLOBAL NUCLEAR FUEL AMERICAS (EPID L-2024-NTM-0002)
On August 20-21, 2024, a hybrid closed meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and representatives from GE Hitachi Americas (GEH-A) and Global Nuclear Fuel Americas (GNF-A) virtually and in-person attendance in Wilmington, NC, to discuss proprietary information regarding GEH-A and GNF-A fuel performance and future plans.
The meeting was noticed on August 1, 2024, and the meeting notice with agenda is available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) under Accession No. ML24214A012.
On August 20, 2024, in the morning portion of the meeting the GEH and GNF-A representatives provided updates on the control blade inspection, fuel performance, accident tolerant fuel program, lead test assemblies, and hot cell post irradiation examination programs. Additionally, the GNF representatives presented information on PANAC12 future topical report.
During the afternoon portion of the meeting the GEH and GNF-A representatives provided updates on LANCR Downstream, GNF3 water rod, channels performance, PRIME licensing for the increased enrichment and higher burnup, details on GNF4 fuel, and licensing activities and plans.
On August 21, 2024, the NRC staff that attended the meeting in-person in Wilmington, NC, participated in a tour of the facility.
