Jennifer,

Thank you for reaching out with the preliminary information regarding the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant. However, this project falls outside the current geographic area of concern for the Sokaogon Chippewa Community. Therefore, my office would like to opt out of further contact on this project, trusting that the consulting Tribes already engaged will render the best aid in your decision making process.

Sincerely,

Michael LaRonge, THPO Sokaogon Chippewa Community 3051 Sand Lake Road Crandon, Wisconsin 54520 Phone: (715) 478-6448 Email: Michael.LaRonge@SCC-nsn.gov

Status Update - Palisades Request for Reauthorization of Power Operations

Warning - Sent from outside the organization. Be cautious with links or attachments.

Good evening,

We are sending out this email to keep NHPA Section 106 consulting parties informed about the status of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRCs) environmental review of the potential reauthorization of power operations at the Palisades Nuclear Plant (Palisades).Palisades is located in Van Buren County, Michigan, along the shore of Lake Michigan, approximately 2.5 miles northwest of Covert Township. As discussed in previous correspondence, the NRC is conducting National Historic Preservation Act Section 106 consultation through the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA) process per 36 CFR 800.8(c).

The NRC conducted a Tribal site visit and meetings with representatives from the Gun Lake Tribe (Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians) and the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi on September 11, 2024. The NRC is compiling the notes from this visit and will send them out shortly.

Holtec Decommissioning International, LLC (Holtec) has prepared a draft archaeological survey for a future undertaking that is not affiliated with the Palisades Restart Project. The NRC staff have a copy of this report and are offering to share it with all consulting Tribes. This survey covers the entire 432-acre Palisades site.

I will share a link link to the archaeological report via my BOX account. The incoming message would be an invitation to the Palisades Restart Environmental Review folder in BOX. Please let me know if you did not receive the email, and I will resend the invitation.

Please note, that the file is password protected. Please the following password to access the file: PNP_Restart

If you encounter any issues accessing the file, please let me know. We would appreciate any comments you may have on the draft report within 30 days.

If you would like to review an associated architectural survey report prepared by Holtec for Palisades, please respond to this email and we will make that report available as well.

Thank you for taking the time to consult with NRC. We look forward to meeting you and hearing your thoughts during this process.

Thank you,

Jennifer A. Davis Senior Environmental Project Manager Environmental Technical Review Branch 1 Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (301) 415-3835
