SUMMARY
OF THE AUGUST 28, 2024, INDUSTRY AND REGULATORY INSPECTION SUMMIT This refers to the Industry and Regulatory Inspection Summit meeting conducted at the NRC Region II Office, Marquis One Tower, 245 Peachtree Center Avenue, NE, 8th Floor Conference Center Salon B, Atlanta GA, on August 28, 2024, 0900am-1200pm Eastern Standard time. The purpose of the meeting was to provide perspective to the needs, expectations, communication, and processes of both the licensee and NRC during an onsite inspection.
Participants included staff from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) as well as industry representatives. Enclosed are a list of attendees and the presentation slides.
The meeting covered a wide variety of topics which included Inspection Requests for Information, the Inspection Life Cycle, Inspection Outcomes/Resolutions and Agency Processes. Specific discussions were as follows:
Topic 1: Inspection Requests for Information An overview of the information request process.
Requests for Information and how documents are handled.
How information is managed during the life cycle of the inspection.
Licensee tracking of requested items.
Document validation process performed by the licensee.

Topic 2: Inspection Life Cycle NRC team make-up.
Discussion on implementation of inspection procedures.
Various interactions which take place on-and off-site.
Screening of issues.
Sharing information for general awareness of identified issues.
Inspection conflict resolution.
Resource centralization and its effects.
Topic 3: Inspection Outcome/Resolutions Discussed peer reviews, headquarters reviews, and regional debriefs.
Staff emphasized an open door for communication.
Discussed how a common understanding is key to a successful inspection.
Topic 4: Agency Processes Post inspection involvement by management from the NRC and utility.
Outcomes included:
o A desire to have a clear understanding from both parties.
o Consistency across all parties involved.
o Understanding that minor issues may not be documented but may have implications across the industry.
o That both the regulatory agency and utilities have seen an unprecedented impacts to staffing, and that open, regular communications are key to future success.
No regulatory decisions were made as a result of this meeting.
