The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff conducted the meeting in accordance with NRC Management Directive 3.5, Attendance at NRC Staff-Sponsored Meetings (ADAMS Accession No. ML21180A271). The main points of discussion during the meeting included:
Purpose and Review Request o
WEC provided the NRC staff an overview of their planned eVinci Tristructural Isotropic (TRISO) Fuel Design Methodology topical report (TR).
o This TR will request NRC review and approval for WECs TRISO fuel design methodology for the eVinciTM microreactor core under normal operation, anticipated operational occurrences (AOOs), and design basis accidents (DBAs).
eVinciTM Microreactor Design Overview o
A list of high-level design specifications was displayed.
eVinciTM Microreactor Deployment Model Overview o
A high-level diagram of the holistic process that WEC is contemplating.
eVinciTM Microreactor NRC Pre-Application Engagement to Date o
WEC has submitted 31 white papers and 5 TRs to date.
Overview of the Westinghouse TRISO Fuel Design Methodology TR o
Westinghouse provided a high-level description of all the sections of the topical report which included regulations, guidance, fuel design, analysis tools, technical specifications framework, and conclusions. The TR will be submitted in July 2024.
Discussion of the topical report (EVR-LIC-RL-003-P/NP, Revision 0, Westinghouse TRISO Fuel Design Methodology Topical Report) submittal schedule requested NRC review timeline, and TR review process Best Practices.
At the conclusion of the open portion of the meeting, the public was invited to make comments or ask questions of the NRC staff. No comments or questions from members of the public were received.
No regulatory decisions were made as a result of this meeting.
During the closed portion of the meeting, WEC and the NRC staff continued discussions regarding proprietary aspects of the proposed TR.
