Dear Sir or Madam:

In accordance with 10 CFR 70.74(b), Global Nuclear Fuel-Americas, LLC (GNF-A) hereby submits a written follow-up report for Event Notification 57198 that was provided to NRC on June 28, 2024 (Reference 2).

Event 57198 As discussed in the initial event report, GNF-A reported an unplanned fire system impairment to the New Hanover County (NHC) Deputy Fire Marshall. Consistent with 10 CFR 70, Appendix A(c), a concurrent report was provided to NRC and is included as Attachment 1 to this letter.

Additional information is provided as follows:

Event Details and Safety Significance At approximately 23:10 EDT on June 27th, 2024, the New Hanover County Deputy Fire Marshall was notified that the site fire alarm system was impacted by multiple power surges from lightning. Specifically, the electric fire pump, while operational, cannot communicate with the fire system.

Immediate Corrective Actions Taken A fire watch was initiated and repairs to the system begun. The electric fire pump communication was restored at approximately 07:45 on June 28th, 2024. A system test was conducted to confirm functionality.

US NRC M240167 August 23, 2024 Page 2 Probable Cause of Event The site fire alarm system was impacted by multiple power surges from lightning. The power surges damaged communication modules for the fire system. While the electric fire pump was operable, the pump would not be able to communicate system status to the alarm system.

Short Term Corrective Actions None.

A fire watch was initiated and repairs to the system begun. The electric fire pump communication was restored at approximately 07:45 on June 28th. The Deputy Fire Marshall was notified of communication restoration. Because the New Hanover County Deputy Fire Marshall was notified, a concurrent notification to the NRC Operations Center is being made per 10 CFR 70, Appendix A(c).
