X-energys Quality Assurance Program Description (QAPD) topical report, revision 6, is currently under NRC staff review. By letter dated July 16, 2024 (ML24198A131), X-energy clarified that the statements in topical report citing 10 CFR 71 in X-energy QAPD Revision 6 are intended to note that the QAPD is designed to conform not only with 10 CFR 50, Appendix B, but also other applicable regulations including the NRCs quality assurance criteria codified in 10 CFR 71, Subpart H. X-energy further stated that although it is understandable that these statements may be interpreted otherwise, they are not intended as a request for a Quality Assurance Program approval pursuant to 10 CFR 71, nor are they intended to constitute notification that X-energy is intending to apply its 10 CFR 50, Appendix B, QAPD to 10 CFR 71 activities at this time. The NRC staff, after consideration of the above clarification, projects that the safety evaluation associated with the QAPD topical report will be issued by October 4, 2024.
